Only software provider approved by Medicare to offer standard-setting
health care survey nationwide
Axxess, an industry leader in home health management software, announced today that it has been approved as a vendor for Consumer Assessment of Health Providers Service (CAHPS), in both the home health and hospice markets, by the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS).
CAHPS (https://cahps.ahrq.gov) is the first nationally standardized and publicly reported survey of patient perceptions of the care provided by health care organizations and was launched to ensure quality health care through accountability and public disclosure. It asks consumers and patients to report on and evaluate their experiences with health care providers. It is managed by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), which is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
The company’s new CAHPS vendor status further emphasizes its commitment to help health care organizations improve patient outcomes by gaining deeper insights driven by streamlined data capture, robust and targeted research, analytics and benchmarking. Patient satisfaction surveys are required by CMS and are poised to become required for all managed care companies and health care providers nationwide.
As an approved vendor, Axxess uses a nationally standardized methodology to measure the experiences of people receiving care from home health and hospice organizations. The information provided by patients through the CAHPS assessments helps home health and hospice organizations align their culture with providing quality care, improving patient outcomes and satisfaction and showcasing the quality of their organization as reported publicly on the CMS-managed Home Health Compare website (http://www.medicare.gov/homehealthcompare/).
“This is another important step in our goal of helping healthcare organizations deliver and measure quality care, streamline their operations and improve patient outcomes,” said John Olajide, CEO of Axxess”. As part of the survey process, Axxess will also help organizations analyze, interpret and benchmark the data to ensure they are delivering high quality care.
Home health and hospice agencies certified by CMS are required to comply with CAHPS reporting guidelines or risk a 2 percent reduction in their reimbursement. The CAHPS survey is required of all Medicare certified agencies that serve 60 or more unduplicated patients a year. All home health and hospice organizations are encouraged to participate in the survey to gain powerful insights that help improve patient outcomes and satisfaction, which ultimately leads to more referrals needed to grow their businesses.
