Axxess’ Vice President of Operations Melody Lenox spoke on a panel recently where Axxess was recognized as a “Best and Brightest” workplace in Dallas. Melody had the opportunity to discuss how the “Axxess Way” informs and inspires our culture.
Many companies talk about their diverse culture. Axxess is generally similar, with a unique differentiator. Our approach to diversity is beyond just race and gender. It includes diversity of thought. We embrace different perspectives and look for Axxessians who are problem-solvers, who are a master at their craft, whatever industry they’re coming from.
With more than 35 ethnicities represented at Axxess, communication becomes a top priority. That many countries, languages and cultures means we work hard to encourage employees to bring their whole self to the organization. We celebrate the conversations about what they value, about their contributions and how they can help. We also talk about collaboration cross-functionally, and help people understand their role and how it plays into the larger picture. Many people think about a company like a puzzle and everyone is their own piece to help form a big picture. At Axxess, our collaboration and teamwork means it’s more like weaving a blanket. Any one person can sit on two, three or more teams and bring their skills and strengths to those groups.
We learn about people through a strategic “Axxessment” that everyone undergoes during the interview process. Axxessians must possess grit, hustle, and problem-solving skills. Additionally, we look for collaborators because our environment lends itself to working together. Therefore, we need people who are open, who think outside of the box, and who are entrepreneurial. If you interview with us, you’ll answer questions that let you speak directly to how you’re entrepreneurial.
Our CEO’s favorite quote is by Margaret Mead. “Never doubt that a small group of committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that has!” It’s the same thing with culture. If you get a small group together to start working on it, you’d be surprised at the larger impact it has. That’s what we’ve done at Axxess since day one. For us, it will always be day one.
