OASIS-E1 FAQs

What is the difference between OASIS-E and OASIS-E1?

OASIS-E1 introduces the removal, addition and modification of certain assessment items. Changes between OASIS-E and OASIS-E1 include:

  • O0350, which focuses on whether a patient’s COVID-19 vaccine is up to date, was added to the Transfer, Transfer Discharge, Discharge and Death at Home assessments.
  • GG0130 and GG0170 Discharge Goals have been removed from the Start of Care and Resumption of Care assessments.
  • M0110 and M2200 have been removed from the Start of Care and Resumption of Care assessments.
  • Verbiage updates have been made to D0150 and M2420.

When can I start scheduling OASIS-E1 assessments?

Per CMS, assessments with an M0090 date of January 1, 2025, or later are required to use OASIS-E1. Assessments with an M0090 date of December 31, 2024, or earlier will continue to use OASIS-E.

The M0090 date reflects the date all information from other disciplines and the physician has been gathered. The actual documentation of findings is not included in the five-day window allowed for the completion of OASIS items.

OASIS-E must be used for patient assessments (SOC/ROC, recertifications, transfers and discharges) completed between December 26 and December 31. If all information is gathered from physicians, other team members and caregivers within the limited (five-day) timeframe for completion, the M0090 date will be December 31, 2024.

OASIS-E1 will be used for patient assessments (SOC/ROC, recertifications, transfers and discharges) completed with an M0090 date of January 1, 2025, or later. Using an incorrect assessment or entering the wrong M0090 date will result in a fatal audit and prevent the completion of the assessment.

How does OASIS-E1 impact the payer fee schedules?

Axxess is updating the Medicare fee schedule for existing organizations with default rates and codes assigned. Users can edit their Medicare fee schedule should they want to update rates or codes that differ from the default values. For all other insurances, the organization will have to enter the rates independently or load rates from another payer with the rates defined.

How does OASIS-E1 impact pay rates?

In Axxess Home Health, organizations will need to add OASIS-E1 user pay rates in their user profile. Once rates have been added for a single user, rates can be copied from one user to another with the same rate requirements.

In Axxess Home Care, OASIS-E1 will need to be added in Company Setup as a default rate that will apply to all users. Users that require a payment that differs from the default rate will need the OASIS-E1 task and the user rate entered in their user profile.

How does OASIS-E1 affect the Load Previous functionality?

The Load Previous functionality only flows from like assessments, such as OASIS-E1 to OASIS-E1. Therefore, the Load Previous function will not be available for the first completed OASIS-E1.

Why is episode timing still required in the patient chart if M0110 is no longer required by CMS?

Even though CMS has removed this requirement from the OASIS and uses other resources such as claims data to capture episode timing, this information remains essential for accurate case-mix calculations within Axxess solutions.
