Axxess Hospice now enables users to identify which medications are covered by hospice and which medications are covered by other payer sources. When a medication is not covered by hospice, users can enter the reason it is not covered. This enhancement facilitates compliance with regulatory requirements for medications not covered by hospice.
To document a medication’s payer source, users must have permission to view the medication profile and tasks in Axxess Hospice.
To give a user permission to view the medication profile, edit the user’s profile and navigate to the Permissions tab. In the Clinical section, select View next to the Medication Profile permission.

To give a user permission to view tasks, select View next to the Tasks permission.

Click Save to finish granting the permissions to the user.
To document a medication’s payer source, access the patient’s medication profile. To access a patient’s medication profile, navigate to the Patients tab and select Medications. Select the desired patient from the menu on the left side of the screen, and select Add Medication to add a new medication or Update Medication to edit the payer source for an existing medication.

In the Add Medication window, users will now see Hospice and Other in the Covered By section.
When Hospice is selected, the hospice organization is financially responsible for paying for the medication.
When Other is selected, a field will appear for users to document the medication’s payer source. Users can also document why the medication is not covered by the hospice organization in the Reason field.
Users who select Other will see a red x label on the medication profile, indicating that the medication is not covered by hospice, and No in the Covered by Hospice column.
All medications entered with the Other option will flow to the non-covered items addendum.
