Axxess Hospice now enables users to identify patients as military veterans to ensure personalized care from intake through bereavement.
By identifying patients as veterans, agencies can customize care to accommodate the unique needs of patients with military experience and ensure continuous access to the appropriate veteran benefits and services.
This feature helps agencies streamline care coordination, deliver optimal care and services to veteran patients, and is particularly useful for hospices that participate in the We Honor Veterans program.
Veteran status can be documented when adding a new referral at intake and added/updated at any time through patient charts. To document veteran status, users must have permissions to access referrals and patient charts.
To give a user permission to access referrals, edit the user’s profile and navigate to the Permissions tab. In the Administration section, select View, Add, Edit, and/or Delete next to the Referrals permission.

To give a user permission to access patient charts, navigate to the Clinical section and select View and Edit next to the Patient Chart permission.

Select the box under Veteran to identify the patient as a military veteran, and select each branch of the military in which the patient served.

Once veteran status has been identified and saved in the referral or patient chart, a new Veteran label will appear in the patient header. Hover over the label to view the selected military branches under which the patient served.
